Rev. Eric and Beth's Farewell Service
We hope that you will join us as we say good-bye to Pastor Eric and his wife, Beth on Sunday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. Sunday school will move to 9:00 a.m. This will be a combined service, so that all our members and associates can be together as we celebrate 14 years of ministry and service, and say thank you to Eric and Beth for all they have accomplished while serving at our church.
Bring plenty of tissues, and remember that this is not so much the end of a beautiful friendship, as the beginning of more and greater service and ministry for Beth and Eric in their new location. Please pray for them and for our church as we adjust to our changed circumstances, and go and do whatever God wants us to go and do next.
About Rev. Lane
A graduate of NC State with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, and Hood Theological Seminary (Masters in Divinity), Rev. Eric Lane has been with our church since June of 2002. He and his wife, Beth, have four children and three grandchildren. Ebenezer has seen considerable growth under his leadership and dynamic preaching. We encourage you to come hear him expound on God's Word.
As you can see from the picture on the left, Eric especially enjoys showing God's love to the children who come to our church (and everybody else, too).

The meeting will conclude at 5:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served during an intermission.
For the past year or more, members of the various United Methodist Churches in Caldwell County have been meeting to determine ways to coordinate our ministries and events. The goal is to reach out into the general community more with our missions work and avoid overlapping or competing ministries. We also want to encourage each church to play to its strengths, while working on improving its general ministries and mission work in the county.
Part of reaching this goal involves better communication and coordination and cooperation among our churches, so we are setting up ways for the United Methodist Churches to keep each other informed or to ask for support from one another for specific events/services/missions work.

Layman's Revival 2015 - Report
I was only able to attend two of the services, but we had a good crowd each evening and the reports from the other nights were good also. The music and speakers were great. We thank everyone who participated and helped make this revival a blessing for us all.
We are gearing up for another session of our annual Layman's Revival on May 3 - May 7 at 7:00 p.m. each evening. This is the week we let ordinary lay people speak about how God has blessed them and helped them to survive difficult times, or just tell us about how much they love the Lord for all that He has done for them (and all of us). There will be special musical performances and worship each evening, too. A list of our guest speakers is below:

IGNITE! Report 2014
If you missed last week's IGNITE! services, you missed many blessings. We were blessed with great, passionate singing--from the Praise Band, the Adult Choir, and the congregation! We were blessed with the witness of several of our members who talked on video about why they come to church and why they are involved in missions here in this community and in other areas. We were blessed by a great speaker who opened up familiar scripture passages in astounding ways.
We were blessed mostly though, by being reminded that we are broken people, we are failures--at life and in our faith--but it doesn't matter, because God loves us anyway. As our speaker, Jesse Carr, said repeatedly, Jesus came to call the broken to Him and to His Father, so that They could show us what real love is.
While on earth, Jesus showed us a God who loves people, especially those who have gone down the wrong road, made the wrong turn, chosen the wrong action, and made themselves and others miserable because of it. NO ONE can claim immunity to the failings of being human or being in rebellion against our Creator. And NO ONE need fear that he or she is unloveable or unforgiveable in God's eyes. He made the way for us; He waits for us to say "yes" to His offering.
Don't let pride hold you back from the only ONE who can truly transform you and your life. For, not only did God descend to earth as a human in Jesus, He also willing dwells within those of us who accept His offer of grace in Jesus and through Jesus.
Jesse also reminded us that we can trust Jesus to take care of us. He has power over all--as He proved when He calmed the raging sea, healed the lepers, and raised the widow's dead son.
But it is not about us. It is about God, and all things rebound to His glory. And "all things work together for good to those who are called according to HIS PURPOSES." Let Jesus rule in your heart, your mind, your life completely. His purpose is being fulfilled. Rest in the knowlege, that whatever is going on in your life or in the world, God's purposes are being fulfilled and He is using your life's circumstances to remake you in His image. Be the clay; let God be the potter.
May the Spirit rise at Ebenezer! Let the Spirit rise at Ebenezer!
Thank You, Lord, for such a wonderful blessing and answer to our prayers. We also thank all those who prayed for these services and helped put them together. You have helped God to bless us. Praise be to God! Amen.
IGNITE! October 12-15, 2014
We invite you and encourage you to attend out IGNITE! services and celebration of new life in Christ Jesus October 12-15 at 6:30 p.m. each evening. We will provide snacks and coffee/hot chocolate on Sunday and Wednesday evening of the services (self-serve).
Besides special music and a very special speaker, Jesse Carr, we will also be showing a video each evening of our members explaining why they attend Ebenezer UMC and why they work at the various ministries in which the church is involved. This is your chance to see and hear about all that we do for the Lord and why it matters so much to us--and why it matters to our community and the world.
Homecoming & $10,000 Sunday
Our guest speaker for Homecoming on Sunday, October 12th this year is Rev. Gary Camp. Worship begins at 10:00 a.m. We will share a covered-dish meal after the service, so bring a favorite dish or dessert to share, if you can.
We invite all our former members and the families of our current members and attendees to join us in this celebration of family--our "blood relations" family and the family composed of our brothers and sisters washed in the blood of the Lamb. We are all one in Christ Jesus. Praise the Lord!
We ask you to be in prayer also, and see how deeply you can dig into your wallet to help us meet our goal of raising $10,000 ABOVE and BEYOND our regular offering to help us pay down the Christian Life Center mortgage. We are halfway to being debt-free. Please help us as we work to finish paying off this debt. May God bless you for your generosity and your continued financial support of all our services and ministries.

The women promise to have something milder to eat for those people who do not enjoy Mexican food, too. Proceeds will be used to help pay the Christian Life Center mortgage.
During the meal, our local artists and craftspeople will display and sale some of their arts and crafts. We encourage you to take a look after your meal and see how creative and skilled our church's people are. Maybe you will find some early Christmas presents, or that one very special birthday or friendship gift, or something nice for yourself to enjoy for many years to come.
We thank you for your support.
Duke Intern Heads Back to School
Jake will be leaving to go to Duke Divinity School after this Sunday, August 10th. He has become an integral part of our church family in a short time and he will be missed. Join us for a Farewell Covered-dish lunch on Sunday after the second worship service. Tell Jake how much he has blessed you and let him know that you will be praying for him as he continues on his pathway in service to God.
Thanks for working so hard and for the fun times, too, Jake. You gave us good teaching, excellent preaching, passionate and thoughful prayers, and kind and good service to young and old. May God continue to bless you in all your endeavors and may you continue to honor God in all that you do. Farewell.
Our new ministry intern from Duke Divinity School has arrived. Jake Resor is from the Nashville, Tennessee area and was brought up in the Church of the Nazarene. Please keep him in your prayers as he learns about the duties and activities involved in serving a church.
Jake will be helping to conduct the services each Sunday. He will deliver the sermons on Sunday, June 22nd while Pastor Lane is away at the annual UMC conference.
New Youth Fund
The Ebenezer Church Council voted on May 15th, 2011 to create a special Contributions Fund for our youth. The Youth Fund will be used to help pay for our young people to go to summer camp or on mission trips. The youth will continue to conduct fundraisers, but this fund will give our members a chance to show our support for the youth and make things a little easier for them and their parents, too.
If you want to give to the fund, write the contribution amount in the Other field and write Youth Fund in the space below. Thank you.

Ebenezer's members are invited to meet at the church at 3:30 p.m. and car pool to the above address.

Pairs and Spares Class Breaks Out - Update June 15th (2012)
Class members worked on the trim again this week. We are now ready to have the wood flooring refurbished. We also plan to get at least one set of blinds for the window that faces directly into the morning sun. We thank everyone who has helped with this project.
Ebenezer's Pairs and Spares Sunday school class broke through the wall in April! The class has been feeling very cramped for over a year, so they asked for permission to expand into an adjacent room. This was one of the rooms that lost its windows because of the Christian Life Center addition. Permission was granted, and class members went to work almost immediately.
Work will continue for the next couple of weeks, but classes will not be interrupted. We will meet in the old fellowship hall during some of the remodeling. There is painting to do; holes to be closed up; electrical lines to be fixed; and flooring to be cleaned or covered. At least after this, the group will not feel so much like sardines in a can on Sunday mornings. Praise the Lord for the growth of the class. Are you looking for a good, solid Bible study and a class that is active in Christian ministries? Come check us out!

New Steeple Installed! (2012)
Our new steeple (paid in full) was delivered on Wednesday, February 29th and installed on Thursday morning, March 1--a great way to start the month! It was a clear, warm morning when Kevin Simmons and his workers, along with Williams Crane Service, put the steeple on the sanctuary roof. Drop by and take a look at it. Below are a couple of pictures.
We thank everyone who gave so generously to this project. Praise the Lord that our people want to show the world in whom we believe by putting this steeple on the roof. The "flame and cross" look wonderful (the United Methodist Church symbol).
Spring Fling Sweetheart Banquet Great Success (2012)
The Sweetheart Banquet went well this year. I have heard several people exclaim how good the food was--and the entertainment also. Below is a note from the Senoir Youth Coordinator, Whitney Sims:
THANK YOU to everyone who supported our youth at the Sweetheart Banquet. Thank you especially to Larry Shook, who helped make the banquet possible with his donations. We are getting so excited about Look Up Lodge and what God is going to do in the lives of our youth while we are there. We raised about $1300 towards camp.
Thank you! Whitney Sims
Costa Rica Mission Team (2012)
Our members returned safely from this year's mission trip. All were enthusiastic about the work they were able to do in Costa Rica. They were especially pleased to help a woman upgrade her home from a slat board house (with large cracks in the walls) to one with a couple of concrete walls. They also shored up the sagging wood flooring. What a wonderful way to share the love of Christ! Amen!
Blood Drive in Memory of Leo McRary (2012)
We had an excellent turn-out for the Blood Drive on Monday. The unofficial count was 51 pints of blood being donated. Thank you everyone for sharing the gift of life. We also thank our volunteers who helped check people in and provided food or helped serve the food during the blood drive.
Ebenezer's annual winter blood drive will be on Monday, January 30th from 2:30 - 7:00 p.m. Our great cooks will be serving hot soup and sandwiches, along with sweets and finger foods, to the donors. Come by and help save lives and enjoy a free meal for your gift of life. (Yes, our old kitchen is torn apart, but we are very resourceful and will still be able to feed our donors.)
Rachel Poe Birthday Party (2012)
Rachel Bowman Poe will celebrate her 95th birthday on Sunday, January 29th from 2-4:00 p.m. All her friends and fellow church members are invited. "No gifts please -- Your presence is your gift."
If you have family pictures to share, please bring them to be displayed on a photo display table.
Steeple Fund Update
We have now received over half of the $4000 we need to replace the old steeple. As of January 29, we have $3,266.51 in the Steeple Fund. That means we only need $733.49 to have enough money to order the new steeple. Praise the Lord for leading our members and friends to give so willingly to this project!
New Steeple Fund (2012)
We are now collecting funds to pay for the new steeple, which will be ordered as soon as the money is available to pay for it. Please designate your donations to this project in the OTHER area of the offering envelopes, and write STEEPLE FUND underneath the amount. We thank you for your generosity.
The new steeple will be rot-proof, and should last for a long time. (The total cost will be around $4000, which includes installation.)

The children of Leonard and Jeanette Teague will celebrate their parent's 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 20th from 2-4:00 p.m. Come and enjoy the food and offer congratulations to the Teagues. No gifts, please.
Car Show Report 1 (2011)
We had a very windy, but sunny day for the 5th Annual Car Show+ on Saturday, October 1st. Thank you to everyone who entered their beautiful and unusual cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors. We were thrilled with the children who brought in their wheels to show off also. The wind was cold, so we sold a considerable amount of coffee and hot chocolate, but at least we were not roasting under a hot sun. We had a bunch of people drop by to see the entries and enjoy a hot meal and some homemade ice cream, too. Thank you all for your support and help.
Our estimate of profit for the show is approximately $1300, which will be divided between the building fund and class ministries. A slide show of the event will be up and running next week on our gallery page. We will have a list of our Best In Show winners and put up photos of their vehicles. There will be a list of the People's Choice winners, and the "Kids Wheels" winners, also.
Thanks again for your support and a great show!
Ragan Knepp Udate and Thanks (2011)
We thank everyone who helped with Ragan's benefit. Our community and the Knepp family friends showed wonderful generosity and concern. Ragan had her surgery in Virginia on August 10th and came through it beautifully. We thank everyone who prayed for her and her family. Ragan still needs your prayers, but she appears to be making good progress. Praise be the our wonderful Lord!
Blood Drive and Knepp Benefit Report (2011)
We are praising God and thanking our Lord for a great bunch of people in our church and community. We collected 50 pints of blood on Thursday, July 28th, about 5 pints more than our goal!
That Saturday, we had the Ragan Knepp benefit and raised over $2500 to help her family with out-of-pocket expenses from the major surgery she will go through on August 10th. More money has come in since then. There will be over $3000 to help the Knepps deal with this crisis.
Ebenezer Church is also preparing to conduct a prayer vigil for Ragan beginning on August 9th and running through midnight on August 10th, the day of the surgery. A sign-up sheet will be available on Sunday, August 7th. We ask that people sign up for one hour and lift up Ragan, her family, and the medical personnel to the Lord at least one or more times during that hour. And after that, Ragan and her family will continue to need prayer, since the recovery time is expected to be several months.

Bolivia House Project News (2011)
As of 5/08/2011, our church and friends have given $3,890.65 to the house building project scheduled to be constructed in Bolivia this June. We needed $3800 in all, so we have met and surpassed that goal. Thank you! Praise the Lord! We thank everyone who has helped to raise money to help pay the mission team members cost for going to Bolivia also. Several of our members and Eric and his son, Kevin, and daughter, Lindsey, will be going to the mission field this summer. Please pray that they and the people they are helping will be blessed as we share the love of Christ with them through this mission effort.

The United Methodist Churches in Caldwell County are getting together on Saturday, October 15th to help spruce up the Kwanzaa Family Inn (1631 Old North Road) in Lenoir. Volunteers are requested to "bring your paint clothes, your tools, and your spirit as we transform the world for Christ." Times are 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided for workers who come for the morning and/or afternoon shift. Contact your pastor for more information.
Habitat House (2010)
The Habitat House project is completed. Our church gave $2,536 for this project. Thank you, Ebenezer members for helping us to reach our goal of $2,000 and go over it! The house was dedicated on Palm Sunday. Jeremy Price and his daughter, Kassidy, wish to express their gratitude to all the Methodist Churches in Caldwell County and their members who helped with the project through their efforts, prayers, and gifts.
The United Methodist Churches of Caldwell County have shown that we can come together as a team and complete a project. The Habitat for Humanity home in southern Caldwell County was our second cooperative IMPACT event. The United Methodist Churches are determined to make a difference throughout our community. You are invited to help. We will be planning a new project soon. Please keep checking back here for news. Thank you for all your support and prayers. PRAISE BE TO GOD and may all we do be to HIS GLORY AND HONOR! Amen.
